Morah Chaya’s Opening School Letter
Dear Parents,
Hi my name is Chaya Weisberg and I am going to be your child’s teacher this year. I am so excited to meet them on the first day of school.
This year the children will learn how to write the Hebrew alphabet along with the letter sounds. All about the Jewish holidays from why we celebrate them to how we celebrate them. I will bring in items that go along with the holidays for hands on learning and of course we will be making projects as well. We will also learn about doing mitzvot, good deeds, there will be a mitzvah tree hanging up in the classroom. When your child does a mitzvah send in the note and it will go on the tree.
In order for your children to learn please send them in with the following supplies:
4 Pencils/ Sharpener Crayons/ Markers Glue Scissors Notebook Folder
If at any point during the school year you would like to contact me please feel free to email me at chayaweisberg@yahoo.com and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
I am looking forward to a wonderful school year with your children.
Sincerely,
Morah Chaya
Grade Summary
Our Aleph students build upon their own hard work from Kindergarten as they begin the 1st grade. Mitzvot (commandments) are a central component to the 1st grade’s curriculum. These students learn the importance behind traditional Jewish values such as giving tzedakah, visiting the sick, welcoming guests, and taking care of the Earth.
In addition to their work in the classroom, our 1st graders will learn what it means to live as Jews as they are encouraged to practice their mitzvot at home. These students will continue to hone their Hebrew decoding skills from the exciting textbook Betman, where they follow a superhero through the Hebrew alphabet. In addition to their work in the textbook, the Aleph students will learn the top 100 words found in the siddur (prayer book). Even before they can read Hebrew fluently, our students will become familiar with the most common words used in our prayer services. The 1st graders will continue to learn classic Bible stories including Jonah and the Whale and Moses’ trip through Egypt while beginning their study of Hebrew prayers. They are still young, but we challenge our 1st graders – Without a doubt, they will enjoy themselves, and probably come home teaching Ema and Abba (Mom and Dad) a thing or two!
