Morah Irit’s Opening School Letter

Dear Parents,

It gives me great pleasure to introduce myself. My name is Irit Aran and I will be teaching your child this year in religious school. Let me introduce myself.

I have lived in New City for the past 15 years and have been a member of NCJC since I came here. I have been teaching at Reuben Gittelman Hebrew Day School for the past several years and I am looking forward to widening my horizon even further by teaching and learning from your children.

This year’s curriculum will place an emphasis on Hebrew reading and will strive to instill in the students a mastery of the Hebrew language. Before each Jewish holiday, we will discuss customs, rituals, and songs relevant to the holiday. We will discuss the weekly parasha and Jewish values from Alef to Tav. Occasionally we will study with our Rabbi.I would like to take this opportunity to mention the matter of homework assignments - reading 5 to 10 minutes a day is crucial and will really help the children to be prepared for class and improve their knowledge of Hebrew.

A few words about materials we will needed for class :

1 2" binder, 2 sharp pencils, 1 eraser, 2 glue stick crayons and thin markers.

In our class we will continue to practice Tzedaka giving. We will emphasize on the act of giving. It will serve as a good deed.I am looking forward to a very enjoyable year and hope your children will learn and have a joyful experience doing so.

Shana Tova - A successful year!

Irit Aran

If you need to speak with me about your child please feel free to call me (not later than 9:30 pm please) 845-216-7063.

Grade Summary

Our Bet students begin coming two days a week and for good reason – there’s a lot to be covered in the 2nd grade!  Right off the bat, these students dive right back into learning Hebrew.  While our Gan and Aleph students begin their Hebrew studies at the beginning of the alphabet, our Bet students continue their Hebrew learning phonetically.  By piecing words together based on sounds, these students quickly reach a level of comfort with the letters and almost instantly achieve success in reading REAL words.  This is a proven method of study and we readily embrace it at NCJC.

There’s much more to the Bet class than just Hebrew.  These students engage in Torah study each week by learning the key lessons in each parsha.  Our Bet class also takes a tour of the synagogue and learns all about the many Jewish objects that can be found in and around the sanctuary.  Throughout the year, our Bet students learn brachot (blessings) and t’fillot (prayers) for many Jewish rituals.  2nd Grade is exciting and challenging, and by the end of the year, our Bet students will be well on their way to further Jewish studies.
